Material guide / EPDM
What does EPDM resist?
EPDM is widely considered for water, glycol, weather, ozone and suitable brake fluids.
Indicative family temperature range: −45 to +150 °C
Generally suitable
- Water and many glycol-based coolants
- Ozone and weathering
- Glycol-based DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids with an approved compound
Generally unsuitable / requires verification
- Mineral hydraulic oil
- Petrol, diesel and mineral oils
EPDM Bonded Seals / Dowty
EPDM / AISI 316 configurations are available on request. Size, configuration and application suitability are confirmed for the specified item.

Does EPDM resist brake fluid?
Correctly specified EPDM is commonly used with glycol-based DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 fluids. This does not automatically apply to silicone-based DOT 5. Braking systems require an approved compound.
Does EPDM resist diesel?
Standard EPDM is generally unsuitable for diesel and mineral oil.
Indicative family information. Concentration, pressure, temperature, exposure and the exact compound must be assessed. Safety-critical applications require documented application approval.
