Material guide / FKM

What does FKM resist?

FKM is used where heat resistance and compatibility with many oils and hydrocarbons are required.

Indicative family temperature range: −20 to +200 °C

Generally suitable

  • Many mineral oils and fuels
  • Ozone and weathering
  • Many petroleum-based hydraulic oils

Generally unsuitable / requires verification

  • Acetone and several ketones
  • Glycol-based DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids
  • Hot steam without a specifically approved compound

Common questions

Does FKM resist diesel?

Standard FKM generally resists diesel, but fuel formulation and temperature must be checked.

Does FKM resist brake fluid?

Standard FKM is generally unsuitable for glycol-based DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids.

Indicative family information. Concentration, pressure, temperature, exposure and the exact compound must be assessed. Safety-critical applications require documented application approval.
