Material guide / NBR
What does NBR resist?
NBR is commonly used for O-rings and seals exposed to mineral oil and many petroleum-based media.
Indicative family temperature range: −30 to +100 °C
Generally suitable
- Mineral hydraulic oil
- Engine oil and diesel, depending on formulation
- Water at moderate temperatures
Generally unsuitable / requires verification
- Ozone and prolonged outdoor exposure
- Steam and high-temperature water
- Glycol-based DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids
Common questions
Does NBR resist glycol?
NBR often suits glycol-based coolants, but additives and temperature must be checked.
Does NBR resist brake fluid?
Standard NBR is generally unsuitable for glycol-based DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids.
Indicative family information. Concentration, pressure, temperature, exposure and the exact compound must be assessed. Safety-critical applications require documented application approval.
